Just wondering about buying this DELL Precision M3800

Any advice on whether its a good deal. I'm looking for a good laptop that will last for 5 years. Won't be doing gaming on it but maybe running Photoshop and development software along with virtual machines.

Thanks

Hi,

It might be a little too expensive, unless you are really looking for that QHD screen it offers. The bulk of the price is for the screen and not the core components.

My advice if you don't mind standard 1080p screen and for same price point:

1) Look for a stronger CPU for better photoshop results
2) For same price you may be able to get more RAM but don't go lower than 1600Mhz
3) Look for more storage options such as dual drives or a 1 TB SSD. This one has 256GB SSD and nothing else. Ideal is 240GB+ SSD AND a HDD.

yep I'm not too pushed on the touchscreen or big quality screen. full hd would do fine. I do like the idea of an SSD as I don't need a huge amount of storage. Alot of my files are in onedrive. are there any good laptops with an i7 256/512gb ssd , lots of ram and a decent enough screen under 2500euro/stg

the hardware doesn't seem to be as good as the DELL precision? and maybe an SSD would be preferable. maybe I'm missing something?

I'd be happy with the 15.6 inch screen

thanks for help

nope. Cant use photoshop with this computer - i know, strange. And, everything sounds super great. Here is the issue. the dpi is 4k - that makes it impossible to use photoshop as somehow between windows and adobe, they cant figure out how to make fonts and tool bar size large enough so you can actually click on them - they are so small, you cant possibly click on anything unless you are 6" away from the screen.... i know... crazy. everything else works. but selection a tool. or, say, clicking on windows to select your effects. And, whoever;s fault - i think it is adobe - if you buy this computer you will be endlessly frustrated because it is unusable for photoshop... which is what you were looking for....
