I'm majoring in aeronautical engineering and I don't not what laptop to get. Asus Zenbook or Acer Aspire? Both have i7 processors and 8gb of ram. Is 8gb of ram even enough for running engineering programs for school?

Hey,

Is the Asus Zenbook i7 Processor "U"? If so, it's not truly an i7 Quad-Core Processor, it's designed for battery efficiency, which hinders performance in comparison to i7 "HQ" Processors.

If the Acer Aspire is an i7 Intel Processor "HQ" (For example, 4700HQ), I'd go for the Acer. The difference in performance is monumental! However, if it's the same processor type, then I'd go for the ASUS Zenbook (Better build quality).

Any idea what all software you'll be using? That might give a clue, off hand I think I want more towards 16GB, I've got some clients that work out at Raytheon and are in Engineering and they tend to start at 16GB and many head up to 32GB or 64GB on desktops (and of the two brands, I'd go Asus)

I'm almost positive that I will be using AutoCad and Matlab. Also, the processor for the Asus I'm looking at is i7-4558u and the Acer's processor is i7-4500u.
