Hello all, signed up for the sole purpose of asling this, since no one has.

So I have a Sony BDV-E2100 Home theatre system which has a bluetooth feature and I connected the system to my PC (Windows 7) as an audio output. However I only ever get 2 channels. I tried to configure the speakers through "Playback Devices" yet it is greyed out. Is there anyway to kind of work around it and get true audio quality?

Solution
Bluetooth won't support 5.1. Just stereo. Then your receiver has to emulate 5.1.

You'll only get true 5.1 by plugging in all 5.1 ports from the pc to as many 5.1 ports on the Sony.

I see. Sorry if this is a silly example but I can link my smartphone on this theatre system via bluetooth and in the music player I can hear all channels. Why can't the PC's bluetooth dp the same thing?

That is the thing. It is a 5.1ch system to begin with. Windows just seems to recognise it as a 2ch system and I can't seem to do anything on that end

you're missing the point that i7baby was trying to make...

he is saying that on your phone and on your computer the bluetooth connection is stereo only. somehow when connected to your phone you are emulating 5.1 (dolby pro logic or other mode probably) on your home theater system.

now while i cant say for a fact if this is true... as far as i know it is and it makes alot of sense due to bluetooths limited bandwidth.

the best way to connect your pc to your home theater would be via hdmi or optical. in the case of optical you would need DDL (dolby digital live) support to actually transmit 5.1 sound over optical. that might involve buying a soundcard with said support if your hardware doesnt already support it. over hdmi you should be fine however if you do not use the tv for video you might have a few other issues.

Through Bluetooth (which only has 2 channels) the surround sound is being created in the Sony. If you press the sound mode button it will cycle through different modes. One of them may work for you. How well the surround creation works will depend on the signal so try different files or discs. Try some music files on the PC too.

I've been working on this problem and the solution seems to be sending the 5.1 as hdmi over wi-fi. There are plenty of systems that do this but I haven't tested it yet. You can buy devices that convert hdmi to spdif if necessary. Look for wireless hdmi.
