I knew it hadn't been working and had been using the on-board Intel graphics and had previously disabled the AMD card (I think it's a 6770M). However just to confirm I re-enabled the AMD card in Device Manager and now Windows 7 won't start up (which is the reason why I originally disabled AMD card).

My question is how can I revert to the Intel graphics, if I can't get to Device Manager because Windows 7 won't start, though it has given me the option of repairing it, which from past experience with this problem doesn't solve the issue.

Thanks,

repeatedly press F8 when you switch on the laptop and it ll take you to safemode.

there using Display Driver Uninstaller, uninstall the display drivers. Make sure you checked to remove the AMD folders.

Then restart it ll take you to windows normally without any display drivers.

Then first install the INTEL graphics driver provided by your HP from the website.

retsart

Then install the latest AMD driver from AMD website and install them. http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

Restart

after installing the AMD drivers if your face any problems like sleep or hibernate then do this.

open "Command Prompt" as admin

type ' powercfg -restoredefaultschemes '

then download this file called ENDURO FIX...

There is something called Bios. If all else fails, the bios is the place to reset your settings. Repeatedly hit Del or F12 (depending on your mobo bios) when your computer is booting. Once you are in the bios look for settings like intergrated peripherals what not and see if there is a setting for using on-board graphics.

If the bios doesn't work, then your last option is to unscrew the bottom of the laptop where the RAM is in. Usually for HP laptops, the cmos battery is behind the RAM door. Take that out and it will reset to original default bios settings.

The reason your windows probably isnt booting using AMD graphics cards because its probably busted or you did something extremely funny causing driver corruptions.

open it and click apply FIX and restart, your laptop should work fine.

If still your AMD card is not working then consult the nearest HP service center.

Even if the name of your graphic card changes in Device Manager Ignore thats not a problem.
