Hey,

I was looking for some advice on purchasing a laptop. My budget is 1500 euro. I'll be using the laptop to run software such as 3DS Max and After Effects.

I'm looking at the Alienware 14 and 17:

Alienware 14 (Considering the third laptop in)
Alienware 17

Any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yikes, visiting those sites is super-slow on my older machine. A lot of JavaScript going on there (slides, etc.)

1500 euro seems like a decent budget.

Problem with those alienwares is that they lack some things I'd personally look for, for rendering 3D stuff.

They have the top range i7 4th gen processor, so you're covered there (if you could find a slightly over-clocked one, that might help too).

I'm not too sure about the RAM though. For 3D stuff, it would seem like I would want 32GB of RAM.

Also, I'd choose a 256GB SSD over an HDD in that price range.

SSDs are just so much faster, which may or may not add some other enhancements to 3D rendering, etc.

I will suggest Dell, HP or Lenovo. You might want to also check out some of the gaming and professional laptops from boutique builders like XoticPC and Origin PC according to your budget. I m also using HP for 3DS Max Software and it is working pretty well. Hope this will help your search.
