:fou: First the power button broke. Fixed that although power stays on all the time. Disk tray came out, went back in. Now it won't open.

Solution
Sorry soundguruman, I fixed the problem before you responded.
Easy enough... the power button is wired to be off or on. If the on switch is engaged all the time that screws up the voltage signal to the chip, and the unit can't operate the motors.
Thanks for your advice though :pt1cable:

You will need to disassemble the unit, or have a tech do it for you. There is a worn out rubber drive belt, or the lubrication is so old that it is dried and frozen. This is a usual problem on old units, but can normally be fixed with time and patience. Don't try to force it.
