Calling all who have tried out music production software!

I'm looking to get into music production but I'm not sure what software to get. Most software I look at has just a wall of dials to edit things. I'm not really looking for something like that though. I really just want something where I can choose an instrument and select notes for it to play. I've been using the free version of Garage Band on my phone and its really awesome if anyone know about that. That's pretty much what I'm looking for, but obviously with more options and more professional.

Thanks in advance!

there is a garageband for pc... and some other software like it though they likely arent freeware.

audacity is also a great program for editing music which is freeware, however i dont believe it it has a composer like what you are looking for.

Off the top of my head, FL Studio 11 is where every beet starts out. Play around for w little. Transport all your samples to Cockos' Reaper. You can do a lot of equalization and sound perfection there. While through this, you'll get a thorough idea of what genre or soundflow you want to work in.

Hip-Hop and Pop : This genre relies heavily on drum machines from Roland and '90s age synthesizers from Moog and the likes. Get Logic X, or Propellerhead Reason. These have the simplest Midi mappings. You're gonna be plugging stuff in and out all the time.

Video Games and Video based : doesn't matter. Start paying for some professional piano lessons and learn. If you have the zest for symphonies and pieces you'll know the in and out of everything.

Dance Music : Relies heavily on inbuilt synthesizers premapped Midi controllers. Go for Ableton Live 9. It's the best oprion available. And if you want a huge library, go for Native Instruments Komplete 10 Ultimate, where you get 440TH of sounds.

People usually take these three turns. Apart from that I don't want to mislead you.
