how do you hook-up equalizer to pioneer vsx-522 receiver?

You can't connect it to that receiver. Surround receivers don't provide connections for EQ because you have five speakers plus sub each of which would require their own EQ settings. The only possible way is to add a power amplifier for the L/R front speakers and insert the EQ between the receiver and amp.
