I have a pair of custom one pro headphones and love then to death, but i have had them for over 2 years now and am getting that itch to get new headphones. Are there any headphones out there that can preform better than these while justifying the price for them? I would like to stay at or under the $400 mark but going $500ish will be acceptable for a better performance to cost ratio.

Doesn't it kind of depend on your use for them? I think different sets of headphones will be good for different settings, whether you're doing audio recording, DJ work, listening to music for pleasure, or playing video games.

I don't have a pair personally, but I've read a lot of good things about Grado cans which are in your price range. Best thing to do is go into a store and test some out for yourself though. Sound perception can be pretty subjective.

yes, there are plenty of headphones which are better than the custom one pro, however what those are depends on your sound preferences.

when you start talking about expensive cans you MUST have a good source or it is worthless to buy them. we are talking a good quality dac+amp capable of breaking through the high ohm resistances on some of the better cans out there.

some good reads

i'm not intimately familiar with the $350+ lineup of headphones (i normally deal with ones below that) so i would suggest reading over at head-fi to get some ideas, however, if you do have any questions about what you find out i can definitely help to explain.

i will mainly be using them to listen to music, i listen to anytime from 1960-2014 on about any genre from dubstep to rock to blues to pop and hip hop. i can always buy a better amp and anything else i need to play them properly. but im looking for some good but not overpowering bass, clear mids, and nice highs. That seems to kick out the grados line because all i can find are people that aren't happy with the bass. i would prefer closed but open is fine. the reason i ask for ya'lls advice is that there are no stores near me, best buy, that i can listen to good headphones.
