hi,

I had a P4 with creative sblive 5.1, and Creative Inspire T5400 74 Watts 5.1 Speakers. Recently I upgraded my system to Core 2 duo quad 2.6, and found my sound card wasent working. Tried many different drivers but it refused to. So I thought of buying a new soundcard as it was too old anyways. What do you guys think is the best Soundcard in below $60 and below $90 range mainly for music and to some extant for movies.

Also if I want to upgrade my speakers what wouild be the best in below $80 category.

thanks.

First, sir, list your components. All of them.

Second, since this build is quite old, it is likely that drivers for 8.1 simply don't exist for your soundcard. BUT! In most cases you can use drivers for windows 7 in windows 8, so if you haven't tried that yet, give it a try. Make sure you get x64 version if you have x64 Windows, or x86 version if you have 32 bit Windows.

Your card is not supported in Windows 8, that's what Microsoft site said.Worse yet, it is also not compatible with Windows 7, so no luck. The only solution is to get a new sound card. Asus Xonar series are very good.

What do you think of Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX 5.1. Almost equal price.

Regarding speakers, I was thinking about Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506, but I dont know if the sound will be better than my current speakers or not.
