Hey everyone,

I've been using my ASUS N53sn laptop for the past few years and I wanted something faster and lighter for law school. My asus is probably close to 6 pounds and it hardly fits in my bag when it's empty, so I'm looking for something more portable.

1. What is your budget?
I'd like to keep it under $1,000.

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
Under 15 inches, less than 5 pounds. Ideally, 13-14" and under 4 pounds. But something like 14.4" and 4.2 pounds is fine, ya know?

3. What screen resolution do you want?
The higher the better, but honestly it really doesn't matter to me.

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Portable

5. How much battery life do you need?
I'd prefer more than 4-5 hour, but it really isn't a big issue because classrooms will have outlets.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
No. I won't be playing games.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Not much outside of school. Note taking, some research, exam software.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
I'd like an SSD, but also a reasonably sized hdd. I have an external drive, but i'd like to have some additional space on the local disk.

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
I generally buy from NewEgg, but i can go for amazon, too. Any suggestions are also welcomed. No real preference.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
a minimum of 3-4 years.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
Just a normal cd/dvd drive.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
No preferences really. I've had two ASUS laptops and they've both had some problems, but I'm not opposed to getting another. I'm not familiar enough with Macbooks, so I'm not trying to buy one at this time.

13. What country do you live in?
USA

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.

I think this is a great laptop for school considering it's size and pricing. It weighs 2.87 lbs and it features a bright 13.3-Inch WQHD Touchscreen. It has about 7.5 hrs of battery life, which is great for a student, but it does go over budget a bit. It also has an SSD, which means faster boot times and program load-ups.

Here's a slightly cheaper option (http://www.amazon.com/Acer-S7-391-6413-Screen-Windows-Ultrabook/dp/B00BJOWXMY/ref=sr_1_41?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1405386128&sr=1-41&keywords=ultrabook)

This option is not as thin, but it offers great performance and it weighs 4.4 lbs (http://www.amazon.com/Acer-V7-482PG-6629-14-Inch-Touchscreen-Ultrabook/dp/B00F9VXQDI/ref=sr_1_32?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1405386194&sr=1-32&keywords=ultrabook).

Thanks for the suggestions! I've been looking at the s7 and reading good things about it as a portability option. If anyone has any other suggestions i'm certainly open to em.

EDIT: also, do those S7's have delete keys? i can't see them in the pictures. or I'm blind?
EDIT 2: oh it does. it's just near the space bar. weird.
