I'm afraid I'm at a loss and hoping that a kind person on this forum can give me a lead?

I'm working on a HP Pavilion dv6-1107AX which is having starting problems. Original problem was continuous or inconsistent beeps on start up and not reaching the log-in window. After much diagnostics and fiddling I was able to break into it enough to do a software CPU test. It passed. Unfortunately the start up problems continued and I eventually determined that the motherboard was faulty. Have replaced the motherboard with a new one.

Then the problem is that it simply won't start at all - no beeps - nothing, except all the panel lights come on momentarily this disappear. The power adapter is good. I get a light at the cable connector but not on the control panel LED. Have now replaced the power button board under the switch cover with a new one, but symptoms remain the same.

I haven't got another CPU to do a test swap although the previous CPU test came up as positive.

I'm left thinking that maybe I've got a dud (new) motherboard? Can anyone think of something else I might have missed please?

My thanks,
Russ Swan

Only thing you can do (although I bet you already did all that) is rechecking every plug and cable, is everything looking ok?
Also look at any damaged components.
If not, you might indeed want to try another motherboard.

Yes. Did that and found that I hadn't locked the cpu into place when I'd re-assembled it previously. At least that got the system to open. Now I'm back to square one with repeated - and irregular beeps. Did another cpu test last night which run for 8 hours. This time the problem pointed to the hard drive, which works fine in my other Toshiba laptop. Weird ... but thanks for your replies.
