Looking for a lightweight, portable laptop with good battery life that's good for gaming (and game design)

So I'm attending a game design program in a couple months, and I'm looking to get a new laptop for it. I'm looking for something small (13-15 inches) and light (~4 pounds or less), with good battery life. At the same time, I want it to be powerful enough to play most modern games and also do some graphic/game design work.

Right now, my two top contenders are the Lenovo Thinkpad T440s and the Acer Travelmate P645. I'm leaning more towards the Travelmate since it's cheaper and has a dedicated graphics card. However I've heard mostly negative things about Acer, so I'm hesitant about taking the plunge.

Do any of you have any experience with either? Or know of another laptop that would fit the bill. I'm looking to spend <$1,500, and hopefully something with a SSD. Thanks so much!
