owismail,

I should mention that I have Adobe Premiere CS- because it was included in Adobe CS, but have not ever really used it.

There are some reasons to use Premiere, mainly that it's the basis for using the full version-later- you'll already know it. I started with Corel Graphic Suite in 1993 and it made changing to Adobe- the professional standard that everybody uses- more difficult.

Having read reviews, by reputation, I would think that Adobe Premiere Elements (about $100) would be a good choice, except it's not too happy on older systems.

For this reason, you might have a look at Pinnacle Studio. This has millions of users, was revised with plenty of features when bought by Avid, and is supposed to work well on slower systems. It's owned by Corel now and the support is supposed to be very good too. There are several versions that I think start in the $50-60 range.

You said you didn't want to upgrade your system, but you might consider adding an inexpensive Ebay graphics card- say, a 128-bit and 1GB GeForce and possibly another 2GB RAM. Video editing takes a lot of memory and processor power, so if you add a card, it frees up the CPU and RAM to do the best they can, and 2GB of total RAM is already pretty minimal. I added a $30 GeForce GT240 (a Newegg clearance sale) to a friend's older AMD system and the Passmark Performance Test Score jumped from 262 to 1394.

I hope that others that use video editing will comment.

Cheers,
