I just received my new Alienware 14 notebook and have almost finished getting it set up to my liking, but I have noticed a subtle yet annoying problem with some of the text and icons.

What happens is some of the text appears blurry. More specific it looks almost like how it would if you were using a high resolution monitor and dialled the resolution way back. The annoying thing is that it is not this way with everything. When I'm browsing the internet some text looks sharp and then theres some text that is just blurry. For instance right now this text block is sharp and everything on the page is sharp except for the Example text under the subject, my followed tags link, and the notifications word at the top those are all blurry. Sometimes I get a whole webpage that is like this, but if I tab out to say battle.net launcher it looks as crisp and clear as you can imagine. Same way with windows explorer windows. Another issue is the Icons for open programs. Right now I have the start button, file explorer, chrome, battle.net, skype, and splashtop. Start, file explorer, chrome and battle.net are crisp and skype and splashtop look obviously pixilated.

This happens also in world of warcraft except on a larger scale. Most all the text in the game is blurred as well as the action buttons (the numbers you can barely read and the icons look weird). Even the game play graphics are a bit iffy, but not as noticeable. Yet in starcraft everything is crisp and looks great.

My assumption is that this is an issue with Windows since I had a similar problem with my desktop, but this was after switching between various resolutions using splashtop streamer and the issue cleared with a restart. I have not yet got this to clear.

I am running Windows 8.1 with 8GB RAM, Intel Core i5, Nvidia GT 750M 2GB, 500GB Hybrid drive, and the full 1920x1080 14" screen. I updated my video drivers and made sure everything is using the discrete GPU. I also made sure every resolution setting was maxed.

Solution
Ok so I was going through some settings and other posts and found the solution to this. The windows scaling setting under display options was set to 150% by default. Turned it down to 100% and everything is crystal clear.
