Well, my Lenovo Y550P, about two years old, overheats so much now. I can't play Counter Strike: Source (a simple game), Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Grand Theft Auto IV, Just Cause 2, or The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim without this damn' computer randomely shutting down on me!

I *KNOW* my airflow is fine, as I have a fan blowing away all the hot air, and I put two books on the left and right of the computer to stand on, so the whole bottom has empty space. But I still feel the freaking GPU get hot. I can't play any damn' game on any freaking settings. The game themselves run fine, 40-50 FPS Medium. But, this computer shuts down.

I see my temptures arise to 100+C, mostly my GPU. My CPU isn't the one causing this. I'm scared to open it because It's my Mom's computer, and she might get mad if I mess something up. :( It was an expensive computer, and I've tried everything from airflow to fans, but other then that nothing else. How can I please fix this computer from overheating. I'm afraid It'll start getting damage soon! :(

External airflow won't help if the heatsink fins are being blocked. Dustballs, hairballs, pretty much anything that accumulates inside the case will eventually block airflow. From the outside it may look clean, but inside... damn!

Need to take it somewhere to have it opened and cleaned thoroughly. I would say a can of compressed air blown through vent ports might dislodge some dust, but you won't know where the rest of it lands inside the PC. Not to mention that stressing the fan by blowing air on it and spinning it like that could cause damage to the fan. So, that's not a good option.

How do I open my computer? Can you provide me with step by step instructions? I don't want to take it to another store, and I'm afraid of messing something up, or moving something and messing up my whole computer. I don't want to ruin this laptop, as it is currently my only laptop considering my other one is in storage.
