Hoping someone can give me some insight on this problem. Here is the setup:

Both the PC and studio monitors are on quality surge protectors on separate outlets, but both are using the same circuit. I have a mini to mini cable running from the PC to the monitors then split with a mini to XLR, with XLRs connected to monitors.

I get a humming when connecting to the headphone jack on the PC, but there is no humming if I connect a different source to the same cable(s). Also, headphones connected to the PC sound fine.

Is it possible that I am experiencing some kind of grounding problem since they are both on the same circuit?

Hi
Almost certainly a ground loop, try putting the pc and the monitors on the same surge protector as a first step.

If that doesn't work then try using a ground lifter on the power cords for the powered monitors.
If neither works you will need a ground isolator like these
