Sound going out on one speaker: what do I have to do to make it stop?

The last 6 sets of speakers I've bought last just long enough for the warranty to expire, then one of them stops working. I keep buying more and more expensive speakers, I anchor the wires with duct tape so the jack wire isn't bending, yet time after time I get a short. The headphones still work.

I've already tried blowing air in the jack. Twisting the jack around and pulling it in and out and has no effect. All the wires are connected properly.

So what do I have to do? I'll do it. I don't mind spending money, but I want it to work. The last set were $100 I thought I shouldn't have to buy speakers for a long time. It's getting old.
