I have a pretty beast PC at home with 8gb and fx6350 and a 7870. on the othe hand, we have this really really ***** laptop that takes 15 minutes to start windows vista and 5 minutes to load up chrome. Im thinking if i could take the HDD from the toshiba laptop and plug it into my desktop to clear some softwares and file and do a virus scan then add it back. Will there be any toshiba license problem with the hdd?

Clean off what files? Just delete some random files? Sure.
Actually get the OS to run better? That requires booting from the OS, and then going through Disk Cleanup and whatever other cleaning utilities you want to use.

But booting the laptop drive, with the original OS, in a whole other PC (the desktop), probably will not work.
Try it if you want, but do not be surprised when it does not boot.

And always, have any critical files saved elsewhere before you go down this path.

Im sorry, not files. More like junk and kiddie games. Im pretty sure there are a ton of viruses on it too. And in order to plug it into my pc i just unplug my hdd and plug in the laptop's hdd and go from there

You can try connecting the laptop drive with the existing OS on it and see if it boots.
But do not be surprised if it does not.

And other than a better CPU, you're not really gaining anything. Whatever you want done can be done directly in the laptop.

As said...try it. It might work. Don't be surprised if it doesn't, though.
