Is Bitdefender Total Security 2014 - Value Edition - 3 PCs / 2 Years a good security program? Im putting a good chunk of money into a gamming pc and I want to make sure its lock tight protected.

The bitdefender I mentioned above is on sale at new egg for $50 with a $50 mail in rebate so ita essencially free.

Now free or paid for really doesnt matter to me. I just want good prgrams to secure my computer. What software do you think would be best. Anti-virus/malware/trojans everything protected.

Bitdefender, like any major antivirus program, does the job pretty good. The weakest link is the OS. If OS is full of holes even the best antivirus will not help.

The most important thing is to use the computer smartly, meaning it will all depend on you.

If you're downloading torrents or anything like tha you will get viruses no matter what anti virus you use so if you're careful what sites you go on to and what you download then you should be ok. Also you can disable alot of the services on Windows as many of them are security holes. Alot of them are enabled by default and are for connecting remotely to the pc which is a way alot of viruses trojans etc. get into Windows systems.

I stay away from torrents, i know the risk of them. I like to buy my stuff rather than try the free way and in the mean time risking my computer to viruses.

What features would I disable on windows?

I think im going to get the bitdefender because well its free with the mail in rebate, i can try it out on my laptop before I use it on my new gaming rig

Best free antivirus: Avast! Free Antivirus. Just make sure to not install their software updates or Grimefighter. Both are useless and slow down your computer.
Best Paid Antivirus (In my opinion and experience, feel free to disagree): Norton Internet Security. Amazing, close to impenetrable, and hard to mess up.

Disable Windows Defender if you install an external program. That is done by going into Windows Defender, clicking the options button, going to Administration, (from the options on the left) and unchecking "Use Windows Defender," or something like that. Click Save Changes, and exit Windows Defender.

DON'T INSTALL 2 ANTIVIRUS PROGRAMS AT THE SAME TIME. They will just compete with each other, and do nothing but slow your computer down.
