Yh I'm looking to get a laptop for £300-£500 as I'm going to Uni in a couple of months (hopefully). It would get used for the basics like browsing and word and videos but I'd also like to be able to do some reasonably light gaming on it. I'm thinking things like bastion, FTL and football manager; the most I'd be wanting to push it would be things like transistor, child of light and banished, I've got a desktop that can handle higher stuff.
Size wise I've been thinking 15.6" would seem about right and resolution wise the higher the better, I'd like 1920 x 1080, but with the budget I'll settle for 1366 x 768.
Portability is reasonably important, I won't expect to be carrying it around all day everyday but it also won't be replacing my desktop. Same really for battery life were I'd like about 5 hours.
I'd like at least 500gb of storage, but all the ones I've been looking at myself have been 1Tb.
In terms of the site I've naturally been looking on amazon but any that ships to the UK is fine, although ideally I'd have heard about it before.
I'll be looking to keep it for at least 5 years and I'd like a dvd player in it, don't require anymore than that.
Brand wise I don't really care although again I'll be happier if I've heard of them before.
The 2 I've been looking at so far have been the Lenovo Z510 and the Asus X550CC.
1) Am i going a bit overkill on these and will i need the dedicated graphics card or can i save myself £100?
2) What do you know about these 2 laptops and which one looks best?
3) Any other suggestions?
Sorry for all the Britshness, from what I've seen most of the budgets are in dollars, but this site has helped me out with a couple of tech problems before so I thought I'd give it another go. I can see why the £ thing could be a problem and if you can't be bothered because of it then fair enough.
