Replace CPU on Laptop with the most powerful CPU available for Socket P

Hi i have a Vaio VPCCW1S1E with a Core 2 Duo P7450 and i want to replace it with the most powerful CPU that board support.
This CPU use Socket P and on wikipedia it says that the most powerful core 2 duo with socket P is the P9700 but the P9700 has different voltage and different TDP, so i want to know if i can use the P9700 or i should use other weaker... Thanks

If the TDP is higher then the cooler may not be able to handle it as it was designed for a lower TDP. This could lead to overheating and the associated problems. Furthermore it is possible that upgrading the CPU is not supported even if the socket is compatible. This said it could still be supported but you would need to be very careful as laptops are not the most friendly when it comes to upgrading.

The most powerful processor on socket P is the T9900. If you do purchase the T9900, ensure it's for socket P, as a BGA479 variant exists too; hence just ensure it's for socket P. After the T9900, the performance between the T9600 and P9700 is similar.

Most laptops on socket P should handle the 35w TDP adequately. Just ensure that you can upgrade/replace your processor, and that your motherboard is compatible; to be honest, I think you'll be fine with the upgrade.

Also before I end my reply, I'd like to mention that socket P is now outdated, and I wouldn't expect much from a processor upgrade. You could always upgrade your RAM and install a SSD to improve responsiveness.

Ok and about the voltage, do you think that i could upgrade to 9700 who has different voltage from p7450? Thanks

Upgrading to the P9700 should not pose an issue as it's similar to the P7450. Upgrading to the P9700 is safer than upgrading to the T9600 or T9900 in your case, as the P9700 is almost identical to the P7450. Honestly I think your laptop will accept the P9700, however I cannot guarantee anything; the only way to find out is by installing it.

Again, I think you'll be fine with the P9700.

I am wondering if this would work for my Toshiba A305-S6872? The specs for the processor are listed below. I would rather pay like 30 bucks for a processor than pay for another laptop. My computer is still in decent shape. I have already upgraded the ram from 3GB to 4GB and replaced the 250GB HD with a 256GB SSD. But, the computer still struggles to run Win7 Ultimate. The computer gets hot running at around 80C when using Win7 using 100% of the processor much of the time. I have lubuntu 14.04 64 bit running on a partition it has none of the issues that Win7 has it runs at about 50-65C and uses only half the resources running similar programs.
