Toshiba SatellitePro L500 will not boot on dvd

Solution
OK; you need to use a special tool that decompresses the ISO and writes the bootloader to the drive, instead of just copying the file intact.

In Win7, if you open it with the windows 7 disk image burner (can't remember exact name; typing this on Kubuntu) it should work.

Hi
Thanks for quick response. Found the Legacy but it is Legacy for USB. Just below that was a SATA (I think this is the CSM) changed it to 'compatability' . Nothing changed.

I will go off and try disabling the Legacy USB, maybe it has a option for dvd.

Thanks

I'm an idiot; I was assuming it's a Windows 8 machine with UEFI.

Compatibility Support Module is what allows a UEFI machine to boot legacy BIOS OSs. Your laptop is from before UEFI really took off, so can only boot from legacy OSs.

What specific errors do you get? Most likely you just need to put the DVD drive at the top of the boot order.

Hi
Careful with the head.

I have tried dvd at top of the list and other options disabled. No success. On one occasion got beyond bios and came up with the 'Media Test Failure PXE-E61. But the dvd drive is showing up on win explorer ok and it can be heard running.

Just does not want to recognise that dvd is at the top of list.

Thnks
Charlie

Hi

I copied file onto harddrive and then burned the DVD at whatever settings it used.

No, have not tried another laptop but will try in the morning. Let you know results tomorrow.

Thanks

Hi guys

Thanks for the posts.

Have downloaded some new software to burn dvd and have burned a disc.

It now recognises the dvd and boots from that it opens up the Linux and advises it is booting, has a small Linux screen for 20 minutes plus and does nothing. So I will go back to the Linux group and see what I can find out.

But my reboot problem is solved. Thanks very much for that somewhere someone
