Hello all, I have purchased an MSI GE70 2PE Apache Pro from scan 2 days ago. When the laptop is idle i get temps at around 45 degrees. Whereas as soon as i put a game on im hitting 90 degrees almost instantly. I have changed the video settings of some games to low and still high temps (staying at 90). anyone know how to make it cooler while gaming?

Thanks,
Joe

Here is the temps on idle

Unfortunately, laptops generally runs hot when gaming. Temps of as high as 95C is not unusual; unfortunate, but not unusual.

There are two things you can do:

1. Buy a cooling pad. This could probably cool your laptop if the fans are blowing air into the vents. Not guaranteed.

2. Disable Turbo Boost. This can effectively lower CPU temps, but this also decreases the max clockspeed of the CPU which could mean lower performance. At least it's better than melting your laptop from the inside out.

To disable Turbo Boost you need to go into your Advanced Power Options and look for Processor Performance. It should default at 100%. Based on experimentation disabling Turbo Boost in Windows 7 and 8 is slightly different.

Windows 7 - Change max performance to 99%

Windows 8 - Change max performance to 68%. You will probably need to play around with this setting 68% works for the i5-4210u CPU. It might be different for your laptop.
