Hi,

I'm currently looking to get a new laptop as my old one is passing the 6 year mark. As I game quite a bit, I would like to get another laptop as future proof as possible (albeit not easy with laptops).

I was looking at laptops that have the new Geforce GTX 880M (such as the Asus ROG G750JZ which I like quite a bit). Yet I have read that the 880M only gives about a 10% - 15% performance increase when compared to the previous 780M. Further to that they said it's basically a repackaged version of the 780M and that I should apparently wait for the Maxwell structure to come out which would see better performance increases.

So my question basically is whether I should stave off my purchase of a new laptop for later this year when (if?) better mobile gpus will come out and whether the above is true about the 880M?

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the suggestions.

So should I go ahead with a purchase or wait for a better mobile GPU?

Yeah but how long will it be until the new Maxwell architecture GPU will come out and is the 880M basically a revamped 780M?

Being the best option now doesn't mean I should get it if something better will come out later this year with significant performance increases.
