I noticed the complete lack of true split screen in LED TV's these days. I own a dlp that does it but it gets increasingly more expensive to repair. I am wondering if there is an external 2-in 1-out hdmi converter that can do the same thing. I know the picture needs to be altered to do it because it goes from wide format to almost square but I though someone out there may have a product for this?

likely splitscreen was dropped in favor of PIP. i dont remember splitscreen ever really being all that common in the first place.

adding in the ability to do what you want would add to the cost. instead of adding a feature like this which isnt in high demand they instead are now concentrating on smart features.

if you want conversion box then the multiviewers are where to start looking however they arent cheap.

or you could just get two cheap vizio televisions. you can enjoy the shows at the native resolution then which is technically better if less convenient for you.

the only way I could see to do this is with the pip (picture in picture) feature that most smart TVs have now but its more like a smaller screen in the top corner

Thanks Shade117, but I'm looking for 2 hdmi inputs to be put in split screen in 1 hdmi output. The PIP/POP functions of today's screens don't seem to provide this function, where they used to. PIP only works on newer sets when one input is analog and one is digital. I need both digital.

That fits the bill, but the bill is too big :). I'm looking for something not nearly as sophisticated and perhaps it's doesn't exist. Still 1up for the link. Thanks!

might i ask for what purpose you want to display two hdmi signals on one monitor in split screen? that sounds a bit of an oddity, dual screens might be better as they do not distort content.

what you are looking for is often called a "multi viewer" although it could also be called a "hdmi processor/scaler" by a few companies. while some accept hdmi (the expensive ones) some also take SDI (which apparently some sdi are capable of upto 4k resolutions and have hdmi->sdi converters available) perhaps worth looking on google using those search terms.

some are capable of many display formats including side by side while some are not. i havent found anything reasonably priced though. its almost cheaper to buy another monitor or tv and use them side by side.

if you can live without hdmi and use old rca instead then i found you some products for reasonable prices and exactly what you are looking for in terms of options.

Thanks for the input, I'm trying to reproduce/replace functionality I have currently with a Mitsubishi 73" DLP TV. Currently, I can split screen with any of its inputs. Handy for football season. The newer LCD/LED screens aren't as robust and it seems they cannot split two HDMI signals. I don't know all the details, but that's he jist of it. I will probably go to a multiple monitor config. if I can't find a suitable single display modification solution. It seems to me as if the current incarnations of led/lcd screens should easily be able to handle this ability but fall short. Probably in deference to cost.
