Unexplained graphics performance drop in lenovo y50

I've recently been using the y50 for some gaming, and I've noticed that periodically my performance will significantly drop.

I'm running mirror's edge at max setting, and getting a pretty steady 60 FPS (the screen only has a refresh rate of 60 hz, so this is my max FPS. I only notice it periodically drop into the 50s)

All of a sudden my screen will get dimmer, and the FPS will drop 30 frames. I think it has something to do with my laptop charging. the laptop says it will stop charging between 95-100 power to prolong the life of the battery, but it maintains the charging icon when doing this, and the power plan stays the same (max performance).

is it possible that my charger is faulty? After unplugging and replugging the cable in the brightness went up again, signalling a change in my power plan (based off of whether my computer is charging the brightness changes), but my graphics performance was still at a steady 30 FPS, half of what it should be.

Another thought is that my computer used to periodically turn off my wifi card to save power (annoying during long downloads). Is it possible my laptop is doing the same with my graphics card?

any thoughts or solutions? similar issues? suggested troubleshooting?

I've had a couple of problems with the laptop already (often corrupts data during installs of games/files, faulty headphone jack, very unstable trackpad performance). Could I just have a lemon?

Hey.
Try going into your
Power Options - Change plan settings - Change advanced power settings.

In your current active setting (max performance), check your PCIE Express - Link State Power Managment - turn off both.

Then go into Processor Power Managment - Minimum Process State, and if they are above 5%, set both to 5%,
again same tab go into System Cooling Policy, and set both to Active,
same tab go into Maximum Process State, set both to 100%.

Then go into Hard Disk Tab - Turn off hard disk after and set Never or 0 in both of them.
Hit Apply button, and check if it helped.

(could also try setting Dim display to Never, though I don't think it have anything to do with it).
Also if the problems persists, try to restart Laptop after applying changes.
If that still doesn't help, try download program called HD Tune and check your HDD for errors.

The battery plan has been on high performance the whole time.

The screen never dims when plugged in and on high performance.

I replayed the level after the performance dropped, and went through areas where I was previously getting 60FPS, now only getting 30 FPS.

Even after unplugging and replugging, while the screen gained brightness, the graphical performance remained low.

As for the power setting the link state power management was already off, and the plan had all of your suggestions, except turning off the hard drive, which I did and will soon test, but I don't see how that helps.

Thanks for the responses, but I don't think that's it. Does anyone else have any ideas?

EDIT: This thing runs crazy cool, no need to worry about that, and it's a brand new laptop, so I wouldn't worry about cleaning it.

If ours solution didn't help, try just giving it to Lenovo service, since it's new you should have warranty.
Since you don't really want to open up new laptop anyway, and trouble-shoot it yourself cause it could void it.
