Framerate averages have all dropped suddenly on Alienware M17x R4?

So I own an Alienware M17x R4 laptop, don't have the specs memorized (usually use a mac for non-gaming functions). Although I couldn't run high graphics-intensive games such as BF4, I could tolerate it. I ran 60 fps Skyrim on ultra no mods, 70-90 Team Fortress 2 on highest settings, 60 on l4d2 highest settings, and 30 fps tomb raider on highest settings (the only games I really play on pc atm). When I found a bunch of viruses on my computer (nearly all of which affected my web browser) and removed the majority of them, my framerate averages lowered greatly. On TF2 max settings I would get 45-60, Skyrim was 7-10, L4D2 was 24-30 on highest settings and Tomb Raider couldn't even function at any settings. I have been planning on building a new pc long before, but I still would like to get my laptop working as normal again. I updated my drivers which did nothing to change it. What should I do to change it back to normal? Should I install an antivirus software, and what type is best?

Having a computer without some kind of protection is NEVER recommended. This goes for your mac as well.

You can try something like AVG free or Avast. Many people use them. In the pay area you have lots of choices as well.

Now I think it is a good time to use the task manager to ensure nothing is eating cpu cycles and something like GPU-Z to ensure your video card is not in use by something else.

Also check your cpu/gpu temps, if they get too hot they will slow down to avoid damage.
HWmonitor is good for most systems. You have other options like HWinfo32/64 and Open Hardware Monitor as well.

Avast found nothing with a normal scan. Will most likely find nothing during a full system scan, norton found nothing as well. Will GPU-Z and HWinfo display information or actually fix the potential problems?

The just display information.

They have new unwanted malware on the net that can pull a computer into an unwanted bitcoin/litecoin/ect networks(make the creator money at your expense.). These may eat cpu or gpu cycles and can cause all kinds of issues.

Checking temperature are because if a notebook gets too hot it slows down. In some environments it does not take long for the small heatsinks in a notebook to get too much dust to cool properly.

I do not even think this user took a year to get this. The system would throttle to save it self then still heat up until it shut off.

I do not expect your notebook to be this bad or I think shutting off would be an issue.

Ok so imageshack is not working, so you may not see the image.
