Replace Laptop Charging Port?

A friend of the family gave me an old laptop that I would try and fix. I'm normally a desktop guy though I've replaced screens/keyboards on laptops before so I figured I'd give it a go. It is an HP dm3-1010us mini laptop thing. The plastic on the case was broken and the wires to the charging port can be exposed with a tug, and with doing so it is evident that the wires were split right on the edge. So, hypothetically speaking of course, here's the potential options I thought of. Again, I do not work on laptops so I don't know the potential behind any of these, and google proved no help.

1. Repair the wires connecting to it (least likely, seems like a lot of hassle with tiny wires; temporary fix at best)
2. Replace the wire (I can solder so it wouldn't be TERRIBLE, though would like to avoid)
3. Get an external charger for the battery (I was not sure if this was actually possible. They exist for some computers but I have not been able to find one for this specific one)

Any help or advice appreciated, can post pics if necessary
Thanks! :)

EDIT: HP dm3-1130US, wrong model. My bad

So, I got ballsy and tore into it when someone suggested it may not need soldered. I'm attempting to solder the wires back together, but its nice knowing that if it doesn't work I can just replace it altogether.
