Solution

Thanks, I guess... :)

The 3.5mm is a good option if you are just listening to music or just want to get sound out of your home theater, but I recommend getting the USB>optical adapter if you want to game/watch movies with full surround sound.

It all comes down to your needs.

The short answer is the only way it's going to happen is if you buy an external usb soundcard that supports either Dolby Digital Live or DTS-Connect and then hook it to your home theater via the optical cable.

You can use Eduello's idea of a usb to optical adapter to input to one of the optical ports. This gives real 5.1 sound.

Or you can use my idea of a 3.5mm to stereo rca plugs to input stereo sound and rely on the amplifier to output 5.1

My idea is cheap - like me. It's something I use at home.

Eduello's idea is more sophisticated and precise.

Ah yes, I just noticed that a Windows update botched up the driver compatibility of the Turtle Beach card...

Nope that's not enough, it might be 5.1 in the computer, but without a way to carry the signal out of your computer to your home theater all you'll get is stereo. Lots of people ask this question, no one seems to like the answer.
