Static from microphone

I've been using a condenser mic through an audio interface for a while now and it's been working fine.
I'm using it mostly for Skype and haven't had any problems, but I've just come to try record something with it and I'm getting white noise from one ear and the recording as normal through the other.
In the past it has worked fine for recording. I've got it set to mono, I've tried several different programs to record through and it's the same when I select "Listen to this device" in the properties menu.
I don't understand how it's working fine through Skype yet everything else it's coming through as white noise.

Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe skype did work only because your microphone was used as a mono signal? Maybe the connection is bad to your computer, or the computer just has a mono microphone input so your stereo microphone's output of R channel is shorted?
Because you do have a stereo microphone, or not?

It's a mono microphone. It's set to mono on the audio interface and the same in any applications I use to try and record.

It's worked fine for recording before and I can't see what's changed.

I don't think so.
As I say, I haven't changed any settings as far as I can tell and it all used to work fine before.
Plus, it's working for Skype just fine.
