I have a Dell L702X Laptop which had a factory 6-Cell battery which died and was not keeping charge for more than 10 mins. I bought a compatible 9-Cell battery, hoping to get some more working time from my laptop.

But now when the battery level reaches 44%, the laptop simply goes off.. no hibernate - just OFF. It seems the laptop hasn't realised that the battery has a bigger capacity and is calculating on a 6-Cell battery. Is there any setting I can change to make the laptop 'realise' that it now has a 9-Cell battery?

I'd be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction before I take it out on the supplier of the battery :/ Thanks

Anything can happen if you didn't buy the battery from Dell. That's why "compatibles" are cheaper but it's false economy and can even damage the laptop.

If my laptop battery failed and I couldn't afford a new OEM one from Toshiba, I'd rather manage without a battery at all than risk damaging a £700 laptop.

Quality is really a very big problem, does your laptop, I mean the part with battery, go hot when charging? Some bad batteries without protection will show such cases as I know, coz it just went hot when charging and then power off... so I feel really you should take some good ones when choosing a replacement, not focus on the price only...
