Hi,

I have an old laptop that i want to use as a TV box with Xbmc, this laptop was always shuting down because of temps in the CPU so i decided to open a hole and put a 12v fan in there, the sad thing is the fan port only powers 5v, so i was wondering if there's other way i could get this 12v, battery is a goner so maybe the laptop battery connector?

it would have been better to just reapply thermal paste and pads on the cpu heatsink of the laptop.

but as for the question, use external power.. the laptop only acquire 18.5 v from the adapter, then distributed to the mainboard.

The laptop was old, the original fan was dead, even when working wasn't enought to cool the CPU. The CPU is prolly dying but if i keep it cool it might last more than whats expected, so why waste $$ when i could open a hole and put a fan that i already had? If the problem was dust in the fan i would probably ask for help cleaning the laptop. Now that the assumptions are gone... I have another laptop here that needs to reflow the GPU i'll fix that and use it with xbmc.

thanks.
