Hi, with just the adapter connected, the laptop doesn't work, and you can't charge the battery with the adapter. This is what happens.

thanks for your response. Not sure if it provides any additional details regarding the issue.. but when the adapter is not connected to the power source, if I connect it to the laptop.. the green LED on the charger get lit up.

Additionally, if the laptop works fine on battery, why do you say that MB needs to be replaced. Please elaborate.

can you please tell me what I need to do to respond to your query.

isn't it same as below [in my first post]

1. I have tested the charger with multimeter. I see 19.5 V.
2. I did check the DC jack and looks to be good. I tested it by connecting the multimeter probes to the back of DC jack and the USB port. That also reads 19.5 V.

It sounds like that your adapter went down? Otherwise how come would the LED lit up with your laptop instead of with the power source... Maybe you're gonna get a replacement adapter?

this adapter is 2 weeks old. It works great with my other dell laptops. So, I don't think adapter is an issue.
