hello,

I live in japan since 2010 for study. I bought 55LG9600 form Japanese store last year (2013/8)
the problem is the smart TV only have 1 language (Japanese). I tried to change it to english. but I couldn't. I read and speak Japanese very well but the problem is after I finish my study in the future i may return to my country. and there I need an english language.

I contacted with LG japan customer service, unfortunately, they told me the LG smart tv in japan is only in Japanese and it cannot be changed to other language. in other word (what you buy in japan stays in japan, sadly same thing for all electronics devices like cellphones etc..)

I searched in the internet in japanese and english but I didn't find any answers. only one man says you can change the memory IC to an english version !!

so any suggestions ?

is that a solution ? :)

I tried to contact with him but no reply till now.

that TV cost me a fortune، and its hard to sell it with a good price in japan. they won't buy it.

anyway I will keep updating this post till we find a good solution.

thanks for the comment.

Sometimes the solution is NO solution to the exact question.

For example "How can I bring my 10 kids in a 2 seat car home in one trip?"

You can't.

But you can make 5 tips.

Since LG said you can't change languages, and you already searched the internet with no solution, the answer is "no solution". A different board from a different country branded TV of the same model may do the trick, but unless you get the information as to exactly what board you need to buy and how to swap them, you are stuck.

why do you need the tv to be in english if you already know how to read japanese well?
nobody else would be able to go in depth into the menus but thats not a huge issue as long as they know the input button and power button.

i would be more concerned with the power standards of your country compared with japan. the tv might not work without a power adapter.

also transporting the tv might be an issue (its not something thats cheap to ship overseas).

I bought a similar LG tv in Japan and not happy about the only-Japanese interface! You're lucky you got a response from LG, they chose not to respond to my emails. To LG: I CANNOT AND WILL NOT RECOMMEND LG. BUY A SONY or TOSHIBA, and you'll have more choices.

If you take it to the US or Canada, you won't have any problem with the power since the TVs are wired for 100-110V and 50 or 60Hz. Getting a 55" there in one-piece will be your bigger issue.
