A cooling pad....Don't use the fans as they do nothing and actually some times suffocate the parts due to their airflow. But the cooling pad as a mat to keep the laptop high off the surface its sitting on is what i'd recommend. As for hot as $%&%, if your gaming or using cpu entesnive programs, then yes it will run hot, and several users post thermal throttling which is actually what should happen with that laptop. But even while thermally throttled, you'll still be getting good performance out of the msi. The cooling boost fan mode, from what users have told me, works great and keeps temps down, but sounds like a hair dryer and well...

The GE70 easily if you are going off specs and not built/warranty/aesthetics. The 860m is superior to the gtx765 by 20-25% normally depending on the version you get and if I recall correctly the GE70 has the Maxwell version which is the better of the two.

That being said Asus has a much better warranty. Aesthetically I personally prefer Asus over MSI especially the keyboards, but that is all personal preference.

Spec wise the msi wins. But the ge is their budget gaming laptop. With that said quality wise the asus g750 has a slight edge over the msi gt series which has a edge over the ge series. So that said the asus quality wise will be superior to the msi. Battery life will also be greater with asus, keyboard, cooling, and fan noise as well. The gt has some cooling issues the asus does not. The ge has poorer cooling over the gt which is poorer than the asus. So again two steps down.

Personally the 860m is a great chip, but the laptop its in is unfavorable.

Whats your budget?

$1300 will give you an asus g750 jm with 860m, or a msi gt70. So, im guessing your at the $1000 range? Correct?

If that is, then your two options are personal decision based. Do you want pure performance living with quircks, or overall better laptop? The asus will have every edge except graphics card, which is a pretty good step up with the msi. The 860m is comparable to the 770m from last year, which is a decent step up from the 765m.

If your budget could be $1300 the asus jm series would be best bet.

How is the last year version jw $1500? that's crazy, that would almost get you the js 870m model, for $1300 you should get the jm with 860m which would be the one I recommend to anybody. And for $1250 you get the jw with 765m, which is so much slower graphics wise over the 860m that $50 you'd be honestly crazy as $^%# to not get the jm.

But even while thermally throttled, you'll still be getting good performance out of the msi. The cooling boost fan mode, from what users have told me, works great and keeps temps down, but sounds like a hair dryer and well noticeable with headphones on or in another room. But it is an option. Fan noise in general will be louder due to a single large fan trying to cool two very heat producing comonents so close to eachother.

But all this said, you wont/shouldn't have any 'issues' major wise with the msi. Yes it will run hot, yes you will get thermally throttled (how often dunno but not all the time), the build quality will be good but not great, but for your money you'll get the most for it.

With the asus, you'll get (I imagine) a 20%performance hit, yet still will play high settings on most games. But you'll get a cooler, quieter, and nicer build.

You just need to choose, performance for quirks, or solid build for performance hit?

All this is relative to one another, each laptop will be great, and you'll enjoy whichever one you pick.

I prefer asus, but I video edit and 3d render for hours each day which puts max load on the system, my asus runs hot and fans kick very nicely, I can only imagine how bad the msi would've done for me, hench why I gave up msi gt70 dominator with 8gb gddr5 880m graphics, for the same priced asus with 3gb 870m. But what I do puts 100% load cpu and gpu, gaming will only do like 50% cpu 90-100% gpu. But I image you'll run 90-95c temps on msi during hour long gaming, which is what I run rendering so end result same. So big negative on the msi, yet it will offer the Maxwell 860m beast of a gpu, which in my eyes makes the heat and fan noise equal.

yeah finally I buy i msi gt70 because he had a discount and was only 1450$. I choose msi because the specs were better and have already a cooling pad from my older laptop that i can put under the msi.

That's great, glad you could make a decision. I spent a long hard 2 weeks trying to decide between the two, and that's after owning both. Yes the msi is better spec wise, and in this case a 860m vs 765m which is a large step up. Im sure you will be very happy with your purchase, id ask that after a few weeks of working with it you do post a review on the laptop and try and include as much info as you can. As I know when I was trying to decide between the two, the msi reviews are extremely lacking and very few, so it could help out the next person in the same predicament.
