WIll this even work? 5.1 sound

I want to know this before i go out and purchase the VIZIO S4251w-B4 5.1 Soundbar i been thinking of buying. the TV a have is VIZIO M551d-A2R 55-Inch. so what i want to know is will i get 5.1 sound if i play movies that are in 5.1 sound from my PC through HDMI.

Should work OK. I have a Onkyo 5.1 system that I connect my PC to though HDMI and from there to my 50" Panasonic 3D Plasma and I can get full DD True HD and DTS Master Audio from Blu-Ray rips. I use Media Player Clasic HC and set the audio out to the DirectSound HDMI out and it works great. Full 5.1 from DD DTS all the way up to DD True HD and DTS Master Audio. Of course this depends on your sound card as to whether you will get DD True HD and DTS Master Audio.

Sorry I miss spoke there it depends on your Graphics Card NOT sound card. If your sound card allows for DD True HD and DTS Master Audio out. As most GPU's do allow that now a days you should be OK. It should at least allow for DD and DTS if it does not do True HD and Master Audio. Your integrated sound card will be just fine. It is the HDMI out port from your GPU that handles the HDMI Audio.

That GPU should be able to do 5.1 out though the HDMI port no problem. It will at least be able to handle DD and DTS maybe not True HD or Master Audio but at least standard DD and DTS for sure.
