I've been looking for a clip-on mic for my Sennheiser HD 280 Pros and was wondering what the best microphone was for it? I'm not looking for a Blue Snowball or something. Just a simple mic to get the job done for online gaming.

they are getting ready to start preorders of version 4.
the modmics are very popular so often sell out rather quick.
its an upstart company selling them not some large corporation churning out millions of them.

your best bet is to preorder the new version 4. they do get great reviews on sound quality and really not much on the market compares to them.

now... as another option you could just look up to see what gaming headset with detachable mic has the best microphone then buy just a replacement microphone boom. then use a 3.5mm female to male cable to connect up to it and zip tie the mic to your headphones (or velcro or other fix) and it does the same thing without being pretty. some people have even modded...
well i'm not sure about "best" but two options that come to mind are:

zalman clip on mic. small, cheap and it works but otherwise rather unremarkable.

modmic. this is what people who buy studio headphones often mount to the side. not terribly expensive and acceptable audio quality. its convenient because you can remove it from the headphones... its magnetic i believe

one requires butchering headphones while the other is a tad unsightly. both work though.

i have to admit that i like the modmic idea better though.
