Need a nifty lil' laptop to last me through college

So yeah, been looking at Macbook pros but it seems they're incredibly overpriced for the tech you get inside them. Then began my search for a non mac related item but it seems there are a lot!

So I've come here!

Can anyone recommend a fast, portable and reliable laptop with a long battery life for my journey through college and part, if not all, of uni; for under £1000.

The MBA is actually pretty good for its price. The 11" model would fit right into your price range, only problem being the small 128GB storage, and you may not like OS X. If you want Windows, maybe look into the Acer Aspire S7. It's also got that same storage, but the Aspire can have a dedicated GTX 750m card in your price range. It would also last ~7 hours on battery, compared to the MBA's 11 hours.
