Hello KantaGaming!

For starters, since it's an old laptop, you might want to reinstall windows, that will fix everything. Then you take good care of the system and you should be good to go.

If you don't feel like defragmenting, cleaning registry, bad short cuts among other things, get this program called TuneUp Utilities 2014. I use it myself and all computers that were really slow, were blazingly fast after applying the program. It not only cleans the system, but also manages which programs are working in the background, it can disable programs while the computer is on, as well as startup programs.

To open and clean the laptop, it's really easy, just get a basic idea on the notebook's insides by watching youtube videos, keep all the screws in groups, as to not forget where they belong, clean and mount it back on.

I have a few solutions:

Firstly, try these free utilities, I use them on my computer, and it run's pretty nice:

1. CCleaner. This will empty your recycling bin, clear internet history, and much more. It also has a registry cleaner option too.

https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

2. Anti Malwarebytes. This will clear out any malware, and will fix or delete any unused files, or conflicting files.

Also, if you don't have anti virus, I recommend Avast! Free edition. For a free antivirus it is fantastic, and will keep viruses away.

Honestly, ccleaner isn't needed with Tuneup but malwarebytes is still good. I still suggest Avast Free antivirus, that's helped me alot.
