My laptop doesn't boot correctly. When this happens the power button comes on but the screen and the keyboard don't. I want to transfer the important data off of it before I send it in for repairs. I have tried an easy transfer the cord but the problem is that my Windows 8 laptop is newer than my Windows Vista desktop that I want to transfer too. Any help is appreciated

Try hooking an external monitor to the laptop and power the laptop on. Perhaps the backlighting died and you just cant see whats on the display.
If that doesnt work then try removing the drive and attaching it to your pc with a usb adapter, drive dock, or enclosure.
