Hey everyone,i am going to buy a new laptop and i was wondering if i should go for 4th gen i5 or 3rd gen i7.I will basically use my laptop for quite a lot of gaming,a little music, movie watching and surfing the net,so the basic functions with the exception of gaming. So,what do u guys recommend?

Generally the i5 is plenty for gaming. The 4th gen i5 will consume less power, so if your on battery on the road you will have a bit more battery time (if that matters to you). The i7 is good too, but if the cost difference is a bit too much I would go with the i5. Did you have some make/models that you had in mind?

generally for gaming you want to stick to quad core. whether that is 3rd or 4th gen its still pretty solid. However I personally would focus more on the GPU power.
there is no mobile I5 processor that is quad core - they are all dual core. Even some of the I7s are dual core.
generally if its an I7 3630M or I7 4700MQ it's ideal.

If you don't mind being plugged in most of the time (No Optimus technology in this laptop):
$970 w/Nvidia 2 x 755m GPU's.
Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p (59406636) Gaming Notebook Intel Core i7 4700MQ (2.40GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB + 8GB SSHD HDD Dual NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M SLI 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit
MSI also has a couple options, but I'll have to get back to you on those (I'm heading out to work....).

This looks pretty solid but i don't think they have this variant available where i live, also MSI laptops are a rarity here
can u clear what this card actually is,the name is confusing- Nvidia GT 750 N14P-GT1
This is what is available to me http://www.flipkart.com/lenovo-ideapad-y510-59-390016-l...
Another thing i wanted to ask is that should i settle for a dual core 4th gen i7 for a slightly better GPU?

Ok let me give you some advice. I also live in India. The model of y510p that guy is suggesting has 2X nvidia gt 755m in sli. The model you are looking at only has 1 gt755m. The one they are selling in india for about 75K is available in the us for about 50K or so.
If you have any relative that can get you one from US, then well and good. Otherwise you would have to go with that one only.
What I did was getting a MSI GT60 From US to India through one of my relatives. Costed about 100K.(INR)
As far as warranty goes Lenovo offers international warranty.

But flipkart suggests the lappy has a Nvidia GT 750 and in yr opinion should i go for it?Will it be able to play games like bf4,nfs rivals, fifa 14 etc on high?AFAIK, flipkart will never get the y510p gt 755m sli model. The new Y50 series is already on the way. Even if they did it will be around 100K.
You can check out some gameplay video on youtube for the single gt 750m model.
