Hi ladies and gents, I'll be starting my Law degree in Sept and I currently don't have a "good-shape" laptop - the current one I'm using feels like it's going to die out on me very soon.

I'm not certain of my budget currently but It will be around £700-900, unless I go for a Mac which means I'll spend around £1100. I'll be using the laptop for tasks such as Microsoft Word, Music (iTunes/YouTube), Skype etc... It's easy finding a laptop that can do that, but I also want to play Minecraft as well as Day-Z (both are games) in my spare time therefore the question is; what laptop will be able to run Minecraft/DayZ as well as multimedia.

To wrap it up: I need suggestions on a laptop that costs around the mark of £700-900 (If it's a Mac it can be increased to £1100) that can run Minecraft in "high" settings, as well as one that is able to run DayZ. I don't think companies such as Alienware - in addition to that the appearance shouldn't be too bulky (fat).

Just for reference, this is the system requirements for Minecraft: http:// - and for DayZ it is: http://.

Can you geniuses please provide me with some suggestions! Thank you in advance.

I used to use a Lenovo IdeaPad z585 Notebook (With the following specs):

CPU: AMD A10-4600M
GPU: HD 7660G + HD 7670M Dual Graphics
Memory: 8GB RAM

I personally thought it was a good laptop for its purposes. The dual graphics is good however not compatible with all games (Total War: Rome 2 will cause graphic artifacts with this activated[This will also occur with War Thunder]) but the AMD control panel does let you deactivate this (And then i could run Rome from Very high to extreme) and let you use the 7670M dedicated card. I bought mine from ebuyer on offer for around £450-£550 but I cannot quite remember on the price as it was a while ago. Mine also came with a 1TB hard drive which is nifty for the game files and other software.

I used minecraft a lot on it, as I am dedicated to a server. With optifine, I ran the game on high settings with 80FPS+. if you mean the DayZ Standalone, it can run it pretty well, I played it on medium, the only time I had problems is in the cities which put the FPS down to 20FPS-25FPS (But that's happens with most people on DayZ when in cities).

Lastly, I only stopped using the laptop as I wanted to play other games on ultra such as Battlefield 4 and Arma 3 so I got myself a desktop. However I do still use the laptop and will be taking it to university with me in September along with my desktop.

http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/CUBE-CZ10-PRO-CB-C52D7-685AH_1557998.html

Specs:

Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ Haswell Quad Core Processor
15.6" Full HD Glossy Screen
Microsoft Windows 8.1 64bit
16GB DDR3 RAM
1000GB 7200 RPM HDD
DVD Rewriter
Dedicated GT 750M 2GB Graphics
USB3 | HDMI | Bluetooth
2 Year Cube Warranty
Brushed Mineral Grey
Both of these are the same, except one is windows 7 the other is windows 8.

I've recommended these laptops before. I'm not from the UK, but I've helped alot of people there with laptops. The Cube seems to be one of the best gaming laptops for your money, and has a webcam for skyping.

Also, if your going to have it on your lap, I always recommend buying one of those also.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply. I've never heard of "Cube", is it a "big" company?

What do you think about the following laptop, you reckon it's suitable for what I'll use it for?ideapad y500

I saw that laptop however I really don't fancy the appearance, I don't like the look of the touchpad and the keyboard (it's important as I won't be adding external components apart from a mouse).

It should be fantastic. I just recommend buying the lap mat cooler for it as well. Cube seems to be a big gaming laptop in the UK, and I've heard of them several times before.

You linked to two different laptops, one had a "pro", what are the difference between the two? I can see that one is Windows 8.1 while the other is 7 but is that it?

I might be able to push it to £1000 but the design/appearance of that laptop is disgusting (in my view). Also, what makes that £1000 (spec wise).

Its just because of the OS. The windows 7 version has Windows 7 professional (hence the Pro name on the end) and the windows 8.1 doesn't have professional. I linked both because I didn't know if you wanted windows 7 or 8.

Thought so, haha. Although I really hate the design, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-G750JW-17-3-inch-Notebook-Black/dp/B00E660TFK/ref=sr_1_26?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1398432536&sr=1-26&keywords=Nvidia+Geforce+GTX+laptop - what do you think of that? Do Asus have student discount?

That just seems underpowered for the price. I recommend the Cube because their the best for your money. It's going to handle alot of tasks, and will play the games you want. All for only about 700 pounds.

The Cube does look great for the price however I can't seem to find any reviews on that Cube therefore is it really that popular? I don't want to a laptop which is unpopular as if an error was to occur, it'll get really hard to find solutions.

I've read over reviews about them on amazon and such, and they average for about 4.5 to 5 stars. I saw a review stating they have great customer support.

Personally i don't think that would be good enough. In my opinion, i quickly found this which is good for the price:
http://www.ebuyer.com/583053-msi-ge60-gaming-laptop-corsair-accessories-ge60-2od-286uk

it also comes with a free mouse, headset and mousepad. You should also browse through the other products available on ebuyer as they do some very good prices for the products you are buying.

However do not jump in and take what i have to say. If you think it will be good, do some research around that laptop and get some more base details on its performance. Hope you find what you want!

I'd get the Y510p, it is a great laptop for the price.
