I recently bought and installed a samsung 840 evo ssd on my laptop.
I did not transfer any old files or clone my old hard drive.
I did a completely fresh install of windows 8.1...and I'm having massive problems with windows update and drivers.
Windows update is, well, not updating.
I've tried checking for updates and installing all of them. I've tried installing specific updates. Nothing works. The updating process sometimes gets stuck at 0% forever (i've read that this is only a display issue, that the updates are actually being installed, but I've let the process running for over 4 hours and the updates did not get installed, plus I checked disk and processor usage on task manager and it shows 0 for the updater window).
When I'm installing specific updates (i.e one update at a time), the update is downloaded and installed, but when I open the update window again (even after system restart), it says that I need to download and install it again.
I've already tried using microsoft's automated troubleshooter and I've read somewhere that this is due to my connection being set as "metered", but I've already checked it and it still doesnt download.
I also tried doing a system refresh and get the same problems.
I'm using a HP Pavillion Dv6-3080br Laptop with switchable graphics and the drivers at hp's support site are completely outdated and do not work on windows 8. Plus, the AMD drivers are not compatible with switchable graphics, so I cant use them either.
When I was using the HDD, I could perfectly use windows update to get these display drivers easily, but now it doesnt work anymore.
Sorry for the wall of text but I have literally no idea of what to do and this seems all to be the SSD's fault.
If I dont find a solution soon I guess i'll have to install windows 7 and pray that the horribly outdated HP drivers will do the job.
