A friend of mine brought me her HP Pavilion DV-7 N6166r (Beats Audio) laptop, and I can't for the life of me figure out what this thing is doing.

ISSUE 1:
The battery seems to be bad, but she did bring the charger so I'm able to power it on. Initially it booted to the Windows boot manager; however, it appears the laptop keyboard is bad. The keyboard is non-responsive: I can't get any of the keys to work on it. I took the laptop apart and reseated the keyboard connection, but it still isn't responsive. I'm aware that the keyboard is possibly bad. The only reason I am noting this issue is because I believe it could be linked to issue #2.

ISSUE 2:
I plugged an external USB keyboard into the laptop and I am able to navigate Windows boot manager and BIOS. The major issue started here. I selected "Start Windows normally;" however, when the Windows loading screen appeared the computer started beeping loudly and constantly. When I say beeping loudly and constantly I mean there is not a beep code. It's just a constant beep and will not quit until I power the PC off.

THINGS I HAVE TRIED:

1. I have tried booting into safe mode, but I get the same constant beep upon windows is loading files.

2. I have tried this process with the battery in the laptop and without the battery. I still ended up with the beeping.

3. I have removed and reseated the memory in both slots. I still ended up with the beeping.

4. I have also tried booting into Windows with the laptop keyboard completely unhooked and removed. I did have a USB keyboard plugged in at this point of attempt. I still ended up with the beeping.

5. I have tried a hard reset: removed the power cable, removed battery, held power button for 15+ seconds. I still ended up with the beeping.

6. I have tried resetting BIOS with CMOS battery: removed the power cable, removed battery, removed CMOS battery for several minutes. I still ended up with the beeping.

7. I have tried moving the SATA cable for the HD to a different port. The computer actually stated that I didn't have a boot drive at this point. I switched the HD back to the original port. I still ended up with the beeping.

8. I have tried booting from Windows on a disk, but I get the same constant beep as soon as it says Windows is loading files.

I'm almost certain it is a hardware issue of some sort, but the only time I get beeping is upon Windows trying to boot or load files. BIOS functions work properly.

PC Specs to my knowledge:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
HD: WD 500gb SATA......5400 RPM???
RAM: 4gb x 1
CPU: I'm not certain at this point

I can pretty much guarantee you its a keyboard issue. If you go to another laptop, and when windows is doing the start up process, mash a bunch of keys on the keyboard you will get the same beeping noise. Likely, since you said the keyboard doesn't work, some connection is loose from the keyboard to the motherboard, and you will need to check that out.
