Hi All

I have been itching to buy a latest 13" macbook air 2013 4gb ram 128 gb ssd since it falls in my budget. My only concern is that since im gonna use that for atleast 4-5 years (i know thats long for a laptop), is it future proof enough,? My daily use will be limited to watching movies, portability is a factor, documenting, web browsing, skype etc and not any video/audio editing, not gaming (since i do it on my desktop). I have been watching few videos and they are more favored towards 8gb ram. Space is not a problem for me as i have a 1TB external hard disk. Also one major point i have to mention is should i wait for this year's launch since they may include retina in air?

Will be highly appreciable if i find quick replies

Thanks

No dont buy it, i have 2 of them and please just hear my story.

First Air was all good and okey, a little slower for my liking after all its just a Dual core at 1.5ghz, its good enough for basic needs but thats all. The laptop itself gets REALLY HOT, i think its because of the aluminium body, i bought a plastic case and problem solved the case was absorbing all the heat. I was watching some movies with my nephew one morning (he was 2 years old) and he trow a toy at the screen, he was just 11 inches away from the laptop and he broke the screen, i called apple center to get a replacement... the replacement screen was 600 usd.. i think right now its 500.. or something. I just sold it at 600 and got another one i promised myself i would be...

The new one, first of all i couldnt expand the HDD i was grounded to the 128gb ssd, oh well im gonna carry my external 1tb everywhere then no problems, then the battery started draining to fast compared to the old one, no problem i just keep charging it. But one day on school i realize i couldnt close the laptop something like this happened to me: http://p.twimg.com/AwfokywCIAAU3BX.jpg:large i sent it back to apple store and they told me it was a problem with the battery they would replace it for free but the case of the laptop that its a single unit was damaged and i would need to get a new one... it was 350 usd... i just lost it all of this happened in less than 1 year.... i asked them to replace the battery and send me back the laptop, because i had no intention on fixing it anymore, they actually knew i was on my second Air, they were very helpfull and sent back my laptop with 2 100 itunes card. I gave them away to my family and sold the laptop, Never again im coming back to apple for a laptop.

This was my story with apple i hope it helps you in someway.

If portability its an issue for you i recommend you the Surface 2 from windows : http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Surface-Pro-2/productID.286866600

Yes its a tablet but with the Keyboard its just a normal laptop. i have been using it for 3 months and i love it, I can use all the apps of a normal windows on my tablet and when i need to get some work done i just plug in my blue keyboard and i have a normal laptop that looks classy.
