My laptop (Samsung NP300E5V) has two slots for RAM and is running on Win8 x64. There's a 4 GB stick in one slot (1600 mhz DDR3), which means the second slot is free. Total capacity is 8 GB. The brand of the current ram is ADATA. I got a HYNIX 4 GB ram (since adata wasnt available) which is of the same frequency. After I installed this new stick, the system starts but there is no display. I placed just the adata ram in both slots and tried booting and its working in both cases. Then I put just the new ram in both slots and for both cases it isnt working. So is the new ram faulty ? or is it not compatible with my mobo ?

did you get the right voltage/ same timings (the 9-9-27 or something like that)? the biggest thing is same voltage as there are different voltages. im guessing there is a compatablity issue here. what is the full part number on the memeory you bought so we can see its specs.

Thank you for the quick reply. I don't have the part number with me now, but I'll post it here once I get back home.

This is what's written on both RAM's:
existing adata ram: "adata am1u16bc4p2-b19c 4 gb 2rx8 pc3-12800s-11 ddr3 1600 CL11"
new hynix ram: "4gb 2rx8 pc3-12800s-11-12-f3 hmt351s6cfr8c-pb no aa 1318"

When I buy ram I always go to crucial.com to get the specs of the memory for my specific system. I usually don't buy the memory there but it does tell me what memory I should get and I usually buy from Newegg.
