My laptop has 4gb (2x2gb) of ram installed however, when I check with task manager it only says that about 2.8 GB is available and over 1 GB is hardware reserved. I am running on 32 bit windows so I know that I can't get more than 4 but I should at least be getting about 3.5 GB with the rest being hardware reserved as I do not have a discrete graphics card running.

I have been searching for a solution for a while and believe that the problem would be fixed by memory remapping. However, i cannot find the option to do this or any clear solution given on the support website.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Your available RAM value in Windows is correct. That's how much free memory is available to Windows & applications after all the hardware has been accounted for and the initial loading of Windows and system processes.

My laptop has 4 GB installed, and shows 3.8 GB usable after Windows has loaded and all the detected hardware accounted for. It's higher than yours because my laptop has a discrete GPU (with dedicated RAM) which is set as the default for everything, rather than using the integrated GPU which would take a fair chunk of system RAM.
