Hey Guys,

I'm in the market for better audio set up and the whole "gaming" headset thing seems to be too varied to make a decent decision on one set.

Someone recommended going with a separate set of headphones and mic to get the best of both worlds.

Any got any advice on what would be a good way to go?

To be completely honest, any headset around 100$ that says it has a noise canceling mic will have nice speakers as well as a mic that will most likely be cheaper than getting an ok headset and ok mic.

The headset i use and have used for the last 2 and a half years is the Logitech g35's.. I like them because they have metal hangers and very durable design (i have thrown them numerous times >.>).. as well as 7.1 audio and noise canceling mic..

SteelSeries has a nice headset as well but i do not like the "on ear" headphone design.. but that is just personal preference but they have good quality mic/headsets..

as well as the difference between USB and Audio 3.5mm.. USB uses your CPU and a driver to give you audio, but in my opinion my G35s are better sounding and has a better mic than most some of the 250$ headsets. (and also even at 250$ they did not have metal hangers)

Use this to shop online for the headset that looks like what you want as well as being in your price range, let me know what you decide on.

I've seen the G35 Headset online for a reasonable price. I don't really need an over the top mic as I'm only gaming with friends and not making youtube videos. I've currently got a set of Corsair Vengeance 1300s and they become really uncomfortable after an hour or so. So I'd like some that I could wear for a few hours without having to take them off to relieve pressure on my ears.

A few people have recommended getting Astros but they just seem too expensive.

Well, in terms of comfort, the Astros are great.. They weigh almost nothing, just kind of sit on your head, no squeeze or anything.. But thats also a downer for me, they do slide around a little when gaming gets intense. lol

Also being so light i feel like they will fall apart in my hands. not to mention their sound quality isn't much (if at all honestly) better than the g35s, in fact i like my mic better.

Comfort is the main thing. I bought a cheap mic yesterday (it was less than £10) and it was seriously lacking. So it seems it seems I either get a mic like a Blue Snowball or buy a new headset.

I've looked at the Steelseries Siberia V2 and the Sennheiser PC330 as headset options.

My cousin has the "on ear" version of those headphones, and they are actually pretty comfy, they are light and have a soft squeeze.. with that design it may be exactly what you're looking for in terms of price/quality/comfort.

The Sennheiser seems to have a lot of complaints in reviews about its comfort, though some say they are just different and after streatching them and getting used to them touching your ear are comfortable.

My budget was originally £60 - £70. I could put off buying some and save some more money. I don't need a super expensive mic as it's just for game comms.

I'm not fussed either way, if I could get a comfy headset with decent sound then I'd be happy. I was swinging towards the Sennheisers because I've had great experiences with their in ears but the headsets have comfort complaint so now I'm a bit lost.

I've started to consider a mic on it's own. The Snowball Ice seems to be the best choice as it's got very good sound quality and not too many features that I wouldn't use anyway.

Yep, I've watched a few videos and everyone says the quality of the sound is great. Also the price is reasonable so I might go for that
