Hi all,

I own a lenovo ideapad z500 laptop. It had windows 8 pre installed onto which i installed windows 8.1.
I'm now facing a problem like when I shut down the laptop, display goes blank and all except for the power button light and hard disc keeps spinning. I have to press the power button for five seconds for it to completely shut off. I tried to give it time to shut off itself, I gave two hours once but it didn't.

This has been very persistent. I have tried installing OS multiple times, it got corrected and the problem reoccurs after sometime. It wouldn't even go to sleep properly when I close the lid now.
It was fine some five days ago. Two weeks ago I removed my Windows 8.1 pro and installed windows 8.1. It said my power management software was not compatible, so I went to lenovo site and installed a new one. It was silky smooth for some five days ago as I said earlier but now it's getting stuck when I close the lid. (Yes, I have it to sleep when I close the lid).

Please help me with the situation. I will give any clarifications needed. Thank you for reading till here. Waiting for your solutions.

You got a windows 8 preinstalled and then install a clean fresh install windows 8.1? Is it original? You know you can just update it into 8.1 for free w/o the need of reinstall.

You know I just wanted to start over from scratch and it also happened that I botched up a dual boot install of linux mint. So i went ahead and wiped the hard drive clean.
